Thomas Edison: RESURRECTOR

Just finished the first 100 pages of the first section of the first draft of Thomas Edison: RESURRECTOR. Two more major sections to write (about 300 or so pages) then onto the rewrite. It’s a blast writing this book and I want to thank all my friends for their kind and encouraging support.

30 Minutes of Less

I was scanning listings this weekend looking for something to download and watch during the week. I downloaded 30 Minutes or Less and I’m glad I did. It’s about a pizza delivery guy who is kidnapped, chloroformed and is forced to rob a bank wearing a bomb vest. Regardless of plot, a lot of the dialog is hilarious as are some of the supporting characters. This is a bargain basement movie and is worth picking if you ever see it in a bin at WalMart.

No Bullet Holes?

Final thoughts on Air Force One (studying old action movie plots). Out of the hundreds of shots fired from machine guns inside the plane (and always missing Harrison Ford) how come not even one round went through the fuselage? In Goldfinger one round hit a window and sucked fat old Goldfinger right out at 30,000 feet!

Chernobyl Diaries

Just saw the first trailer for Chernobyl Diaries. Good high concept and hopefully the film won’t descend into a typical slasher clone. It looks like the U.S. release is on May 25th, 2012.

Check it out here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1991245/

John Carter

I haven’t seen the movie yet,  but I first saw the trailer at the show waiting to see The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I thought John Carter was going to be a bomb, and it looks like that’s coming true. Why? The story is basically good (written in 1912 by Edgar Rice Burroughs), the CGI is cool, but the film seems to have an obstacle it can’t overcome: overproduction. There’s a definite lack of hip that pervades this film. I think if John Carter was a low budget, net-sourced affair, such as Iron Sky, it would have a much better chance of success and developed a long-tail audience. Even the cheezy 2009 version of Princess of Mars has a cult following (due to Traci Lords).

Iron Sky Update

It looks line Entertainment One has picked up Iron Sky for U.S. distribution at SXSW. I believe this film will be an underground hit and according to the article Iron Sky will be in theaters this spring (which it what? Less than two weeks away?).
